Lynne Arriale to Headline Dakota Foundation Benefit November 3
NOV 3, 2013
Location: The Dakota
Internationally acclaimed pianist Lynne Arriale will visit the Twin Cities to headline Youth, Joy & Jazz, a benefit for the Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education (DFJE) on November 3, and to lead a piano workshop with local aspiring middle- and high school players the previous day.
Drawing from jazz, world/folk, pop/rock, and alternative musical influences, Arriale offers audiences an intimate experience through her boldly melodic original compositions and imaginative reinterpretations of unexpected pop classics. The New York Times noted “Arriale’s brilliant musicianship and bandstand instincts place her among the top pianists of the day.” Joining Arriale on stage will be Gordy Johnson on bass and Dave Schmalenberger on drums.
Arriale’s performance will benefit programs of the Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education (DFJE). Members of the DFJE-supported Dakota Combo, an all-star group of local high school jazz players, will open for Arriale. The benefit will take place at the Dakota in downtown Minneapolis.
Proceeds from the event will help DFJE support a variety of workshops, performance opportunities and other experiences developed to nurture young minds and talent through jazz. Learn more about DFJE programs at dfje.org and on Facebook.
Tickets for Youth, Joy & Jazz are available through the Dakota Jazz Club’s website, by calling 612-332-5299 and in-person at the club. Stay tuned to djfe.org for more information about this big event.
