Youth Stages

The Foundation annually funds the Youth Stage at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, held each June in St. Paul. The stage plays host to a variety of young musicians, from high school and college-based bands, to independent groups like DFJE’s own Dakota Combo. Past Youth Stages have welcomed hundreds of audience members to hear six great local acts.

While previous Youth Stages have taken place on a single day, beginning in 2017, we have expanded the Youth Stage to take place over two days!

Friday, June 22 | 4 to 8:30pm
4:00 – Jerome Treadwell Group
5:00 – Lelah Z
6:00 – Vimbo

Saturday, June 23 | 1 to 7:30pm
1:00 – Joe’s Jazz Camp
2:00 – Lasse Corson Quartet
3:00 – JAM: Jazz Around Minneapolis
4:00 – Apple Valley High R&B Band
5:00 – DFJE’s “Experience Jazz” Youth Combos
6:00-7:30 – The Dakota Combo

2013 DFJE Youth Stage Gallery

DFJE also provides other opportunities for young jazz musicians to shine on stage and gain performance experience. For example, just in 2013 the Dakota Combo performed at the Dakota, the Artists’ Quarter, the Iowa City Jazz Festival and the Dakota Street Fest.
