Youth Stages

The Foundation annually funds the Youth Stage at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, held each June in St. Paul. The stage plays host to a variety of young musicians, from high school and college-based bands, to independent groups like DFJE’s own Dakota Combo. Past Youth Stages have welcomed hundreds of audience members to hear six great local acts.

While previous Youth Stages have taken place on a single day, beginning in 2017, we have expanded the Youth Stage to take place over two days!

Check out this year’s line up:

Friday, June 23 | 4 to 7pm
4:00 – Walker West Youth Jazz Ensemble
5:00 – Below Zero
6:00 – Twin Cities Honors Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Saturday, June 24 | 1 to 6pm
1:00 – Joe’s Jazz Camp
2:00 – Liquid Vinyl
3:00 – Apple Valley High School R&B Band
4:00 – Iowa City Jazz Combo
5:00 – Dakota Combo

All performances at Twin Cities Jazz Fest are free to the public. For more information visit:

DFJE also provides other opportunities for young jazz musicians to shine on stage and gain performance experience. For example, just in 2013 the Dakota Combo performed at the Dakota, the Artists’ Quarter, the Iowa City Jazz Festival and the Dakota Street Fest.
